French School / 1903 / Still Life With A Hare And A Duck
FRENCH SCHOOL — STILL LIFE WITH A HARE AND A DUCK — 1903
A beautiful hunting still life, signed and dated 1903 in the lower right corner, depicting a hare and a duck suspended from a hook, accompanied by two hunting horns.
The composition, in a slender vertical format, stands out for the care taken in rendering the textures: the softness of the fur, the delicacy of the plumage, and the sheen of the accessories.
Side lighting highlights the forms and casts shadows on the understated background, lending the entire piece a striking presence.
The red and green ribbons discreetly punctuate a harmonious palette of browns, ochres, and grays.
This work is part of the French tradition of still lifes featuring game and hunting trophies.
Its narrow format gives it a decorative quality particularly well-suited for a trumeau or a section of wall between two openings.
Signed and dated 1903 in the lower right corner.
Original canvas and stretcher.
In very good condition.
Dimensions without frame: 95 × 45 cm. Dimensions with frame: 106 × 55.5 cm.
