Mahogany Wood Sculpture Base
An exceptional mahogany sculpture stand dating from the first half of the 20th century, circa 1920–1940.
This stand rests on three gracefully curved legs and features a round, height-adjustable tabletop. The mechanism consists of a central wooden post fitted with a rack and a metal locking device. Beneath the tabletop is a second round tabletop.
Such stands were used in studios by sculptors and artists to position sculptures at the desired working height during their creation.
