Mammoth Tooth On Base
Very large fossilized mammoth tooth on a custom-made base.
The mammoth was a large, hairy mammal that lived during the Ice Age and is related to the elephant. It had adapted to the cold climate with thick fur, layers of fat and curved tusks.
About 10,000 years ago, most mammoths disappeared, probably due to climate change and hunting by humans. A few isolated populations, such as the one on Wrangel Island, survived for several thousand more years. Most mammoth fossils are found in Siberia, Alaska, Canada and Northern Europe, where permafrost has preserved their remains exceptionally well.
