Box Made Of Banded Agate And Gilded Bronze, Of French Or German Origin, Mid-19th Century

Striped agate and ormolu trinket box, French or German, mid 19th century

Rectangular form with ball feet, 4.8 cm high, 10.5 cm maximum width, 6.3 cm maximum depth

Provenance: private collection, The Netherlands

A good-sized French or German gilded bronze mounted striped agate box, dating to the middle of the 19th century. The exterior is constructed from rectangular striped or banded agate panels in hues of black and brown, exhibiting natural white banding patterns typical of the material sourced for decorative stonework during this period. Each agate panel is set into a gilt bronze frame with fine tooling along the edges. The mounting is composed of gilded bronze, precisely cut to accommodate the contours of the agate slabs, forming a box of rectangular form with a flat hinged lid. The box is unsigned but consistent in technique and construction with French objets de luxe of the Belle Époque era.

Very good condition for the age.
