Vintage Freemason Loje Mirror From The Napoleon III Era
This rare "Freemason" trumeau mirror, typical of lodge mirrors (where members gather), is recognizable by its symbolic decorative elements: a five-pointed star (representing the pentagram, a symbol of man in the universe) at the base of each neoclassical column topped by an “Ionic” capital. The pediment’s fascia, meanwhile, features applied stucco decoration of Moorish inspiration and bears, at its center, an inverted square (one of the Mason’s tools) containing the letter G, symbol of the Great Architect of the Universe. This object, of French origin, can be dated to between 1870 and 1880. It was originally silver-plated, and we have restored its patina in our workshop. Its antique silver-plated mirror has a few wear marks that attest to its authenticity. The back consists of a latticework of thin fir planks.
