Large Empire-style Chandelier In Gilded Bronze And Patinated Sheet Metal With Swan Motifs – Circa 1900
A striking Empire-style chandelier in gilded bronze and black-patinated sheet metal, dating from the early 20th century, circa 1900–1920.
Beautifully proportioned, this chandelier features a circular central body made of black-patinated sheet metal, adorned with six gilded bronze arms depicting elegant swans with long, curved necks and outstretched wings.
The arms rest on brackets richly engraved with volutes, foliage, and scrollwork—motifs characteristic of the Empire decorative style.
The upper section is adorned with a truncated conical element in gilded bronze, decorated with palmettes, foliage scrolls, and floral motifs, topped by a pine cone.
Beneath the central body is a large circular rosette in gilded bronze with a radiating decoration of acanthus leaves and foliage scrolls, ending in a pine cone-shaped base decorated with scales.
The chandelier is suspended by three long metal rods with a black patina, attached to a gilded bronze ceiling bracket also adorned with foliage motifs and a pine cone.
The piece stands out for the quality of its decorative bronze elements, the elegance of its proportions, and the contrast between the gilding and the dark patina of the sheet metal.
Dated to the early 20th century, circa 1900–1920, in the Empire style.
In good overall condition, with some signs of wear and small spots of ceiling paint on the patinated sheet metal.
