Dora Hauth-Trachsler (1874–1957) studied at the Zurich School of Applied Arts from 1890 to 1894.
After devoting herself for a time to the labor movement, she founded a painting school in Zurich that proved highly successful. To satisfy her passion for painting, the Swiss artist portrayed prominent figures among her fellow citizens while also creating still lifes and landscapes.
A talented and prolific artist, Dora Hauth also developed a passion for poster art and illustrating school textbooks for a time.
Deeply committed to promoting her fellow female artists in the art world, she became vice president of the Zurich chapter of the Swiss Society of Women Painters and Sculptors.
Our painting depicts Jacob Lorenz (1883–1946), a Swiss sociologist and economist. The artist employs a highly expressionistic technique and color palette, masterfully capturing the full scope of her subject’s perspective.
