Camille Tharaud – Limoges – Porcelain Vase With Polychrome Enamel Decoration, Art Deco Period, 1930
Limoges porcelain vase produced by the Camille Tharaud factory, with a polychrome enamel decoration in the Art Deco style, circa 1925–1930.
With a baluster shape featuring a generously rounded body and a tapered neck ending in a wide opening with a thick, rounded rim, this vase displays a rich geometric and stylized decoration characteristic of Art Deco-era designs.
Against a background of reddish-brown, coppery, and golden-brown hues, several concentric friezes outlined in black stand out, alternating between oval motifs and stylized ornaments in turquoise blue, gray, and verdigris enamels.
The central frieze, composed of large, sinuous motifs in visual relief, lends the design a particularly original character. The textural effects and color variations of the glazes lend the piece a beautiful depth and rich chromatic palette.
The lower section, intentionally more understated, features a speckled glaze in warm tones, highlighting the ornamentation on the shoulder.
A piece characteristic of Camille Tharaud’s decorative explorations, combining the quality of Limoges porcelain with an aesthetic that was decidedly modern for its time.
Blue marks on the underside: the Camille Tharaud factory stamp, Limoges, and Tharaud’s signature.
