A Pair Of Gothic-style Candlesticks, Made In The 17th Century
A pair of Gothic-style candle holders, made in the 17th century. The slender, molded shafts are punctuated by three disc-shaped knots. The wide, circular cups feature a crenellated rim and a central spike designed to hold the candle. Bands adorned with circular perforations decorate the undersides of the cups as well as the bases.
The molded circular bases each rest on three lion-shaped feet, with carefully rendered heads and engraved manes. Slight variations in craftsmanship give each piece its own unique character.
Height: 31.5 cm each.
Both pieces show signs of use, slight surface irregularities, and localized oxidation. One of the tips bears clearly visible file marks and has been thinned in places, as shown in the detailed photographs.
