Oil On Canvas, "hinterland Of Boulogne-sur-mer"
Artist: Bétrémieux
Large oil on canvas,
"Arrière-pays de Boulogne-sur-Mer" (Hinterland of Boulogne-sur-Mer),
signed "Betremieux 88." Charles Bétrémieux (1919–1997)
was a 20th-century French painter. Born in the Gard department,
he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Valenciennes before continuing
his training in Paris. Beginning in 1942, he taught drawing at the Lycée Wallon
and, in 1970, helped establish the "visual arts" department at the University of Valenciennes.
His work, influenced by the artistic movements of the 1930s, blends modernism with surrealist touches.
He is particularly noted for his poetic landscapes of Northern France,
characterized by a restrained and sensitive color palette.
Charles Bétrémieux’s work was exhibited at venues
including the Galerie Durand-Ruel in 1953 and the Musée National d’Art Moderne in Paris.
