Hermès Paris, 1920s–1930s, Portable Photo Frame Made Of Silver And Leather
Hermès Paris — Miniature travel photo frame in solid silver and red leather, interwar period
Rectangular photo frame in solid silver, crafted by Hermès during the interwar period. The front features a delicate guilloché pattern of interlacing wavy lines, framed by plain borders. The frame’s understated form and the regularity of its decoration are characteristic of the Art Deco aesthetic.
The back is covered in burgundy red leather and bears the signature “HERMÈS PARIS,” stamped in gold with a small die. This signature also appears, stamped in silver, on the edge of the frame. Two pivoting hooks hold the back in place and allow it to be opened to insert a photograph.
The support stand, also covered in leather, folds back against the back. Its miniature size allows the frame to be slipped into a bag or toiletry bag, so you can keep a portrait of a loved one with you while traveling.
The leather shows a patina and visible signs of wear, as seen in the photographs.
