Large Mirror, 18th-century; Italiy, Gilt And Lacquered Wood
Elegant Italian mirror dating from the 18th century, finely carved in wood, gilded and lacquered in green and red tones.
The tall architectural frame is richly decorated with an openwork crest featuring floral motifs, scrolling ornament, leafy garlands and acanthus leaves. The combination of polychrome lacquer and gilding gives the piece a particularly refined and decorative appearance.
The upper section incorporates a small mirrored element within the elaborate carved crest. The main mirror plate retains an authentically aged surface, with visible deterioration and losses to the silvering consistent with its age.
