*Jean-Claude Novaromaster glassmaker born in Antibes (Alpes-Maritimes) in 1943. Trained from the age of 14 at Éloi Monod’s glassworks in Biot, the teenager became a glassblower and then a colorist. He became a master glassmaker at age 20 and was appointed “head of the workshop.” He established his own studio in Biot in 1977, assisted by his wife. He works with both the marble and hand tools, using hot-working techniques, reduction metallization, and incorporating metals, metal oxides, gold leaf, and various precious metals. From 1979 to 1981, he worked with Jean-Paul van Lith, who influenced him to create elegant, lightweight pieces with Tachist motifs. Over the years, Jean-Claude Novaro has engaged in extensive research. He invented a type of glass that, when mixed with powders, absorbs light and then emits it more effectively in the dark, in a series titled *Luminescences*. Enjoying international renown, he is considered one of today’s greatest master glassmakers. His works are on display at the Nice airport and in numerous galleries. Some of his works have been sold on the American television show *Fine Art Showcase*, and his buyers include celebrities such as Prince Albert II of Monaco, Sheikh Tariq Al Qassimi, Robert De Niro, Bill Cosby, Mike Tyson, Philippe Monet, and Jean Reno. His fame is such that a golf trophy is named after him. In 2011, he opened a studio near Dubai, where he signed an agreement with the international group Rak Ceramics to design an exclusive line of tiles and bathroom fixtures.
