Renaissance-style Display Cabinet, Two-section Glass-fronted Bookcase, Mascarons, Caryatids
A very attractive two-part Renaissance-style sideboard with a display case in the upper section.
The lower section rests on four legs. The front legs are shaped like lion’s paws.
The front features two doors richly carved in high relief and decorated with two mascarons set within cartouches; a large crosswise drawer with an amusing grotesque-head handle surmounts them.
The side panels are adorned with grotesques, while the sides are decorated with a sculpture enclosed within rectangular molding.
The upper section is glazed on the sides and opens at the front with two doors that are also glazed and decorated with piastre rays.
The side posts are topped with caryatids. The pediment is carved with interlacing patterns, masks, and shells on the sides.
This display cabinet was made in the second half of the 19th century in the Neo-Renaissance style, which was very fashionable at the time.
This piece is in good, used condition and, of course, shows some signs of wear.
