Chinese Porcelain Cup, "green Family" Wangsai, Enamel On Glaze, Bronze Mount, 19th Century

This cup is a piece of Chinese porcelain originating from the famous workshops of Jingdezhen.

It is characteristic of the iconic Green Family style, whose polychrome palette of overglaze enamels flourished during the Qing Dynasty, particularly during the reign of Emperor Kangxi in the late 17th century and early 18th century.
It is either a piece produced in the 19th century for the export market to Europe and the East India Company.

The design features a speckled, peppery-green background surrounding several cartouches adorned with motifs symbolic of Chinese culture. The central medallion depicts a bird with colorful plumage perched on a flowering branch, while the outer medallions feature a deer in a landscape—a symbol of longevity and prosperity—as well as floral arrangements and traditional scholar’s objects such as books, scrolls, and a fan.
