A Porcelain Vase With A Yellow And Blue Ground. China Qing Dynasty 1644-1911, Late 19th Century
Of cylindrical form with rounded shoulders, a tall straight neck and a wide flared rim, the vase is entirely covered with a brilliant yellow glaze serving as a ground for the underglaze blue decoration. The body is adorned with a refined figural scene depicting elegant court ladies set within a literary inspired landscape. The neck is decorated with flowering branches rendered in a vivid cobalt blue, while beneath the rim runs a continuous band of stylized scrollwork. At the base, a broad ornamental frieze with waves and foliate scrolls completes the decoration.
