An 18th-century masterpiece for prestigious settings

This extraordinary pair of oil-on-canvas paintings embodies the majesty of 18th-century landscape painting. The works convey a timeless beauty thanks to the perfect harmony between the power of nature and the delicacy of the pastoral figures. Upon closer inspection, one immediately senses an overwhelming energy: the play of light on the rocks, the dynamism of the waterfalls, and the misty skies captivate the viewer’s gaze.

The artistic legacy of Claude-Joseph Vernet’s circle

The composition and painterly style clearly evoke the sensibility of Claude-Joseph Vernet (1714–1789), the celebrated French master of Arcadian and sublime landscapes. During his long stay in Italy, Vernet skillfully combined realistic views with fantastical elements, influencing a vast array of students and followers. This pair exemplifies precisely that perfect balance between unspoiled nature and human presence, where travelers and farmers enliven the scene, infusing the landscape with life and poetry.
