Exceptional Edwardian Queen Anne Revival solid sterling silver Monteith punch or centrepiece bowl, raised on a decorative pedestal foot and measuring approximately 19 cm in height by 26 cm in diameter, with a substantial weight of approximately 895 grams.

Assayed in London in 1901 and bearing the maker’s mark of Elkington & Co. Ltd., this impressive vessel is executed in the traditional Monteith pattern, distinguished by its deeply scalloped and crenellated rim originally designed for suspending wine glasses during formal punch service.

The upper border is richly decorated with high-relief cast and chased scrolling acanthus foliage, floral sprays, and rose blossom motifs, interspersed with sweeping C-scroll cresting that follows the undulating outline of the rim. Beneath runs a continuous moulded girdle encircling the bowl and separating the elaborate upper decoration from the highly polished central body.

The lower section displays a series of elegant repoussé lobed panels with flowing scroll details rising from the foot, creating a striking contrast against the plain burnished surface above. The pedestal foot mirrors the decorative treatment of the rim, featuring matching foliate scrollwork and floral ornamentation executed in crisp relief.

The exterior bears a clear set of English hallmarks including the lion passant sterling standard mark, London assay mark, date letter for 1901, and the maker’s mark of Elkington & Co. Ltd.
