Antique Silver Austrian Biedermeier Miniature Zappler Clock Glass Dome 10cm 1890
Austrian Biedermeier miniature table clock, historically referred to as a "Zappler" clock, dates from the nineteenth century. The timepiece's distinguishing feature is its front-mounted cowl pendulum positioned directly before the dial face. The main clock structure consists of a stamped metal facade finished in dark patinated tones, accented with applied gilt-metal foliage scrolling, trailing leaf garlands, and stylized floral motifs that frame the central face. Three faceted blue paste gemstones (one missing) accent the upper, while a circular border of faceted dark garnet-colored paste stones encircles the dial. The white dial displays black Roman numeral hour indicators and steel hands. The rear view reveals an unmarked brass backplate movement with an integrated mainspring ratchet and steel click spring assembly, secured to the base plate by a vertical brass support bracket. The clock is housed under a loose, blown-glass dome cloche sitting upon a circular wooden base covered with cream fabric and bordered by red velvet trim. The underside of the base is supported by small spherical feet. This complete miniature horological display measures approximately 10 centimeters in total height and 7 centimeters across the base diameter, with the internal clock unit measuring 5.5 centimeters in height and 2 centimeters in depth.
