Created by the artisan painters and potters of the Gien factory (Loiret, France), this rectangular planter, typical of the Art Deco style and featuring the so-called “Peonies” design, is a fine example of French quality.
The Gien factory is an internationally renowned institution in the world of French earthenware and tableware. Founded in 1821 by the English industrialist Thomas Edme Hulm, with the ambition of creating earthenware using French techniques and an English style.
Inspired by Gien’s golden age in the late 19th century, this iconic “Peony” design is a reissue from the 1940s. It features flowers from the peony family—originally from Japan—in a variety of organic, polychromatic forms inspired by the Art Nouveau movement, with a Japanese-inspired aesthetic and a purely Art Deco geometric shape.
