Pair Of Tekke Turkmen Cuff Bracelets – Gold-plated Solid Silver And Carnelian Cabochons –
A remarkable pair of wide, traditional Turkmen cuff bracelets, known as Bilezik, attributed to the Tekke tribe in Central Asia and likely dating from the late 19th or early 20th century.
Crafted from solid silver partially gilded, these imposing bracelets feature a rich decoration of finely engraved arabesques and scrollwork, arranged across four horizontal bands separated by silver strips.
Each band is adorned with red cabochons, likely carnelian, set in raised mounts. The contrast between the silver, the gilded sections, and the red stones lends the piece a great ornamental richness.
The cuffs, open at the back, feature borders cut into small stylized points, characteristic of traditional Turkmen goldsmithing.
In Turkmen culture, these imposing pieces of jewelry were important elements of women’s attire. Worn particularly during ceremonies and weddings, they signified social status and family wealth. Silver and red stones were also associated with protective powers.
This pair stands out for its generous proportions, its substantial weight of 540 grams, and the finesse of its silversmithing.
A beautiful set of antique ethnic jewelry, particularly decorative and representative of Central Asian traditions.
