Giltwood Torchiere / Pedestal Stand With Putto, 19th Century
An elegant, finely carved and gilded wood sculpture serving as a torchiere or plant stand. The upper section features a well-defined winged putto or cherub standing and supporting a slatted flared basket upon its head. The figure stands on a lobed, shell-shaped basin adorned with hanging rings. The central shaft rests on a substantial tripod base in a Renaissance Revival style, richly decorated with grotesque masks, scrolls, and paw feet, ultimately terminating on a smooth triangular plinth.
