André Lanskoy (1902–1976) was a Franco-Russian artist originally from Moscow. Fleeing the October Revolution, he settled with his family in Kyiv in 1918, where he created his very first works and frequented Alexandra Exter’s studio. Having settled in Paris in the 1920s, he regularly participated in the Salon d’Automne as well as various exhibitions alongside other Russian artists, including Chaïm Soutine and Marc Chagall. His work, gradually evolving from figurative portraits toward lyrical abstraction, was exhibited at renowned galleries such as those of Siegfried Bing, Jeanne Bucher, and Leo Castelli, and solo exhibitions were dedicated to him both in Paris and internationally. From the 1950s until his death, several of his works were acquired by the Musée national d’Art Moderne, the Mobilier National, and the Guggenheim Museum in New York. Working primarily in gouache and oil, he also created tapestries, mosaics, and collages throughout his career.
