Created in the 19th century in France, in the Parisian porcelain factories, this sculpture pays homage to the holy figure of the Virgin Mary.

Since the art of fine porcelain had not yet been fully mastered in France, it was in the 19th century that the field saw its greatest advances and innovations, as exemplified here by this piece, which today seems commonplace to us but was, in its time, a true masterpiece.

Entirely hand-sculpted and hand-painted, this Virgin Mary is covered in 18k gold-leaf enamel in shades of white and beige, giving the piece a realistic and moving quality. It is in good overall condition, though there are some chips on the thumbs; ideal for a collection of religious porcelain figurines.
