Arthur K. Maderson (1942) - Sunset In Beynac (dordogne)
- Oil on panel. Signed and titled (front and back)
- 68 x 50 cm / 92 x 74 cm with frame
- Born in London in 1942 and trained at the prestigious Camberwell School of Art, Arthur Karl Maderson has established himself as one of the leading living figures in figurative and Impressionist painting in Ireland, where he settled in the early 1980s in the Blackwater River valleys. A spiritual heir to the plein air tradition and the free, dense use of paint characteristic of masters such as Monet, Bonnard, or Cézanne, Maderson has devoted much of his creative maturity to the landscapes of southern France—notably the Cévennes and Provence—where his scenes of rivers, fields, and markets transform nature into sumptuous architectures of light and matter. Through her masterful command of fragmented impasto, vibrant chromatic juxtapositions, and the shifting play of sunlight on land and water, her French work does more than simply capture the sensory immediacy of the landscape: it elevates the Impressionist practice to the level of an almost tactile meditation on perception, memory, and the poetic permanence of the rural world.
