Bust Of The Crowned Virgin Mary In Beeswax – France, Early 19th Century
A rare and fascinating example of French Marian devotion, this bust of the Crowned Virgin, crafted from beeswax in the early 19th century, stands out for its delicate sculptural presence and exceptional iconography.
The model is inspired by the famous image of the Virgin venerated at the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière in Lyon, *as shown in the last image. The depiction of the Crowned Virgin is a particularly interesting detail: in versions of this subject, in fact, the Virgin is often depicted veiled.
The surface retains traces of the original polychromy, precious evidence of its history and original color scheme. The bust is in excellent condition, with a patina that enhances its historical character and authenticity.
