Grisot Pierre (1911–1995) "the Young Ballerinas" Paris Opera Domergue Dancers
GRISOT, Pierre (1911–1995)
" Young Ballerinas "
Oil on panel,
Signed lower right,
A beautiful work by the French painter of the School of Paris, Pierre Grisot, depicting young ballerinas dressed in their tutus.
The artist has a swift and precise brushstroke that plays on the interplay of light and contrast.
The faces and costumes are particularly well rendered.
Trained under Jean-Gabriel Domergue, Pierre Grisot is famous for his portraits of elegant women, dancers, and scenes of Parisian life.
Pierre Grisot initially pursued a degree in engineering under family pressure. Passionate about art, he eventually moved to Paris to study at the École des Arts Décoratifs and then at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts.
Before devoting himself fully to his art, he worked as a fashion illustrator. In particular, he created advertisements for Christian Dior’s hats and perfumes, as well as sketches for the prestigious magazine L’Officiel de la Mode. This immersion profoundly influenced his painting, characterized by the delicacy of his female figures.
Beginning with his first official exhibition in 1942, his works enjoyed immense international success, traveling from Paris to New York, via London and Tokyo.
