Japanese Print By Namiki: Momiji, Maple In Autumn
A very beautiful signed, numbered print.
The print was created by the artist himself on silver leaf mounted on Torinoko paper (washi with a smooth surface), using traditional techniques with oil-based pigments. This technique lends depth and iridescent colors, with a perception that shifts with changes in lighting.
Sosaku Hanga
Nishiki-e
Born in Tokyo in 1947, Hajime Namiki began his career as a sculptor before turning to woodblock printing in the 1970s, in the spirit of sosaku hanga.
His works combine the use of oil-based pigments with gold or silver leaf.
Namiki draws inspiration from nature, Mount Fuji, and floral motifs.
Having become a leading figure in contemporary Japanese woodblock printing, several of his works have been acquired by major American collections, including those of the White House, the Art Institute of Chicago, the New Orleans Museum of Art, and LACMA in Los Angeles.
