The Little Beggar, Painted Porcelain Plaque, 1847
Porcelain plate painted after a lost painting by Paul Delaroche (1797–1856), “The Little Beggar,” known from a photograph dating from 1858 and housed at the Musée d’Orsay.
One can admire the exceptional quality of this large plate, both in the precision of the design and the vibrancy of the colors. It is signed and dated on the plate at the bottom center: “Emile Philips after Paul Delaroche 1847—The Little Beggar”. The same text appears on the reverse.
It should be noted that this plate is contemporary with the original painting, which was painted around 1841.
It bears no manufacturer’s mark, but the quality of the piece suggests it may have been produced in Berlin.
In good condition despite some minor wear and scratches.
Diameter of the plaque alone: 29 cm
