Mamouth Ivory Box Kholmoghory Siberia
Rare box from the Arkangelsk region of Siberia, town of Kholmogory, in very finely carved Mamouth ivory and openwork cartridges decorated with unicorns, hares, wolves, facing lions, on a background of mica plates. The lid decorated with plaques, one remaining representing a couple of characters. The box is entirely engraved with polychrome decorative motifs of columns topped with vases of flowers, ribbons, bouquets and foliage. This extremely rare box due to the richness of its decoration and the quality of its engraving has retained its original interior in embroidered silk. It nevertheless suffers from gaps in a front plate (left unicorn) and on the cover plates.
