Large Bronze Vase With Aquatic Motifs By Henry Fugère
Large, monumental vase in silver-plated bronze from the Art Nouveau period. A spectacular work by sculptor Henry Fugère (1872–1944), cast in bronze by the prestigious Susse Frères in Paris.Probably commissioned for a nautical event. Standing at a remarkable height of 89cm, this vase perfectly illustrates the mastery of the Art Nouveau aquatic repertoire: the face of a nymph with flowing hair, reeds, a crayfish, tridents, and marine dolphin motifs.Signed “Fugère” twice (on the central piece and on the base). Superb original patina. A mark from the foundry Susse on the base. At the top of the vase is a period-appropriate element designed to hold a plant.
