An exceptional and rare regional 18th-century wedding or master’s chest of drawers from the Rhône Valley in Provence.
A fine example of southern French cabinetmaking, this curved piece stands out for its selection of fine woods and its particularly sturdy and meticulous construction.
Front and sides: Entirely made of solid walnut, featuring a deep, warm, and perfectly preserved patina.
The cabinet’s back panels, shelves, and drawer backs are solid and made of very thick solid oak. This high-quality craftsmanship ensures perfect structural balance and unwavering durability against the ravages of time.
Upper section: Opens via two large doors with richly molded panels featuring scalloped edges in the Louis XV style. The ensemble is crowned by an elegant and imposing, highly ornate “gendarme’s hat” cornice.
Lower section: A generously curved chest of drawers opening with three large front drawers, accentuated by elegant and dynamic Rocaille lines.
Beautiful period lock with its original chiseled bronze faceplate.
The interior of the drawers is lined with an original antique fabric featuring floral motifs.
