19th-Century Painting: Scene from the Napoleonic Era; Oil on Canvas
A charming oil-on-canvas painting from the second half of the 19th century depicting a lively genre scene from the First Empire era.
The work depicts a soldier in uniform wearing a bicorne hat with a cockade and grenadier epaulets, walking along a country path accompanied by two young figures carrying a pack
A very lovely scene from the Napoleonic era.
19th century
Oil on canvas, mounted on its original stretcher.
Old handwritten notation on the back of the stretcher: “Jeanne Gourier” (signature or former collection)
Sold with its period gilded wood frame featuring an antique patina; in very good overall condition
Canvas only: 26.5 cm x 24 cm
With frame: 36.5 cm x 31.5 cm
The work is in its original condition, which lends it a beautiful authenticity.
Note: there is a visible loss of paint on the lower part of the soldier’s leg—the canvas weave is visible in this area (see detailed photos)—and slight signs of wear in the sky.
The rest of the painting is in good condition.
Close-up photo of the defect on the leg is included to avoid any disputes with the buyer.
Restoration and cleaning will be required
