Low Sideboard In Louis XIV-style Walnut Paneling, A Hunting Cabinet, Late 17th To Early 18th
A magnificent Louis XIV-style paneled sideboard dating from the late 17th to early 18th century.
This piece is largely made of solid walnut; it rests on four straight legs, with oak stiles, and the lower section is adorned with wide molding.
The front features two hinged doors and two drawers in pure Louis XIV style, crafted from thick wood.
The upper portions of the two side panels are shaped in a “gendarme’s hat” design.
The piece is topped by a wooden shelf featuring molding around its entire perimeter.
The back and bottom of this piece are in perfect condition.
This piece is remarkably well-preserved given its age; however, we would like to point out a few signs of wear or imperfections, namely:
- The shelf is slightly warped, though this does not affect its structural integrity (see photo 12).
- The lock is old and works perfectly; however, it is quite difficult to remove the key and even more difficult to reinsert it, so we recommend using it only to open and close the cabinet.
- A small chip and a touch-up on the lower molding on the left, at the very back.
A stain on the front of the shelf on the right.
Dimensions:
Height 99 cm
Length 143 cm
Depth 64 cm
