French Miniature Louis XVI-style Mantelpiece, Gilded Bronze And White Marble, 1880
A three-piece French mantelpiece set, miniature in size, from the Belle Époque period and in the Louis XVI style. It consists of a clock and a pair of matching candlesticks, made of gilded bronze on white marble.
The clock features a drum-shaped case, topped by a bird perched on a garland of flowers. It rests on a fluted marble column, flanked by two stylized dolphins and encircled by a laurel wreath at its base. The set sits on a rectangular marble base, adorned with a laurel garland appliqué tied with a ribbon, and rests on spindle-shaped feet. The back door is finely engraved.
The enameled dial features Arabic numerals and is decorated with painted floral festoons. The French movement, with a platform escapement, is numbered 5198.
The candlesticks are shaped like fluted columns topped with an urn-shaped bowl, adorned with beaded festoons and a row of beads. They, too, rest on a marble base with spindle-shaped feet.
A charming and complete set, delicately sized, ideal for a mantelpiece, a desk, or a display case.
