Small Wooden Sculpture Of A Saintly Bishop With A Crosier And Miter, 19th Century
Small carved wooden religious statue depicting a saintly bishop. He wears his traditional miter on his head, his liturgical vestments consisting of a chasuble and a stole embroidered with a cross; and, most notably, he holds his episcopal crozier (carved from ox bone) in his right hand. Dates from the 19th century.
This sculpture is in good overall condition. It has a hole drilled through the bottom (for mounting).
Please note: his left hand is missing; there is soiling on the left hand gripping the crozier (perhaps from a previous repair?); and there is wear from age—see photos.
