Antique Painting Still Life With Fishes And Snails Oil On Canvas '600

Oil on canvas. Lombard school, late 17th–early 18th century.
The painting, previously sold at the Wannenes auction in 2018, is attributed to Giovanni Blasio, an artist whose style is similar to that of Felice Boselli but who differs from him in his specific depiction of fish.
In-depth studies of this artist are currently underway, but it is known that he was active in Lombardy and Emilia toward the end of the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century.
The composition features three large fish—which appear to be pike—one of which occupies the entire right edge of the canvas, suspended near a collection of plant elements placed on the ground or on raised platforms outdoors.
In the foreground on the left is a bowl full of snails, with two crabs resting in front of it; in the center is a large basin filled with pomegranates, in front of which lie cucumbers and two bundles of lavender branches.
In the background are two more pike, one hanging and the other resting on a raised platform on which a large basket full of mushrooms is displayed, though it is almost hidden by shadows.
The painting has undergone restoration and re-lining in the past.
It is set in a gilded frame from the late 19th century.
