Second Empire-era luxury candy box or presentation box.

Manufacturer: signature in gold lettering on the upper edge of the body: À la Marquise de Sévigné.

Outer covering in patinated leather.

Gilded ironwork decoration: a pattern of Napoleonic bees on the domed lid, framed by garlands of foliage.

Central cartouche in red Mariquin metal stamped with the monogram “N” crowned with palm and laurel leaves.

Full perimeter studding with patinated brass cabochons.

Original burgundy satin interior lining.

Metalwork: brass lock plate and hinges; comes with its period key.

A superb and rare domed presentation box covered in patinated brown leather, richly decorated with a gold-embossed honeycomb pattern and bordered by a foliage frieze.

The lid features a central medallion in burgundy morocco leather, stamped with Napoleon’s crowned monogram.

The entire piece is accented with imposing cabochon studs.The interior is lined with its original red/burgundy satin.

The box is marked in gold lettering on the side: “To the Marquise de Sévigné, Paris.”
