Large Carved Walnut Sideboard / Credenza—with Putto Decoration—20th Century
A very impressive walnut display sideboard, featuring fine cabinetmaking and carving, made around 1900.
This piece stands out for its exceptional dimensions, measuring nearly 2.50 meters in length, and for its highly architectural front.
The central section opens with two drawers and two doors, complemented on either side by curved side doors that provide ample storage space.
The interior is fitted with shelves.
The front features remarkable carved decoration.
The central post is particularly spectacular, adorned with a putto harvesting a bunch of grapes, surrounded by vine tendrils, leaves, and grape clusters.
The lower section features a large carved shell, while the crossbars and panels are embellished with foliage motifs and relief carvings.
The central doors with their intricate panels, the rounded ends, the upper cornice, and the small scroll-shaped bases give the structure an elegant and highly decorative silhouette.
The wooden top is adorned with beautiful geometric woodwork, arranged in interlacing patterns, which provides an interesting contrast to the rich carving on the front.
Beautiful, warm walnut patina.
A spectacular piece of furniture, particularly well-suited for a large dining room, a historic home, or a home with character.
