Small Nevers earthenware planter by Antoine Montagnon (1838–1910).
It is adorned with a floral design painted in the famous Nevers blue (different on each of its four sides).
Its scalloped upper rim is accented by two borders, while the lower part is decorated with Rocaille-style motifs.
The Montagnon pottery, also known as the “Manufacture du Bout du Monde,” was founded in 1648 in Nevers and acquired by Antoine Montagnon in 1875; he ran the business until 1899.
Its work was recognized in 1876 with a diploma of merit at thethe 1876 World’s Fair in Philadelphia, followed by a first gold medal at the 1878 World’s Fair in Paris and a second at the 1889 World’s Fair.
This planter is in perfect condition and shows no damage.
