Leather And Pierced Brass Correspondence Box, Northern Europe, 18th–19th Century
A fine wooden correspondence box covered in black pressed leather, embellished with particularly elegant pierced brass mounts.
The box locks with a key and is further secured by two engraved brass catches.
The moulded lid is fitted with a handsome turned-brass handle, in the 18th-century tradition.
The interior is lined with green glazed paper showing signs of use, while the underside is covered with decorative block-printed paper.
