Italian Gilded Wooden Picture Frame – Mid-19th Century

An elegant Italian frame made of carved and gilded wood, dating from the mid-19th century, featuring rich and refined decoration in the classical style. The frame, approximately 9 cm wide, features an elaborate ornamental motif composed of palmettes, leaves, and plant scrolls, arranged harmoniously along the entire perimeter. The background is particularly beautiful, finely engraved with a lattice pattern that creates a pleasing contrast with the raised plant motifs and enhances the luminosity of the gilding. The inner edge is adorned with a regular sequence of small stylized palmettes, while the corners and central sections are highlighted by larger, more undulating leaf motifs, which give the frame a rich and elegant appearance without weighing down the overall design. The antique gilding, with its beautiful patina developed over time, retains a warm and particularly decorative tone. There are minor losses and natural signs of aging, consistent with the frame’s period and visible in the photographs. A frame of remarkable decorative quality, ideal for showcasing an antique painting from the 19th century or an earlier period.Period: mid-19th centuryMaterial: carved and gilded woodExternal dimensions: 65 × 80 cmInner dimensions: 48.5 × 62.5 cmFrame width: 9 cmMolding thickness: 19 mm
