Sword of a Commissioner of Gunpowder and Saltpeter, 1852 model, Second Empire period, 19th century.
Mother-of-pearl inlays and chiseled brass mountings.
Single-branch guard with chiseling & pommel featuring a rivet-style knob and chiseled bee motif.
Hilt without counter-hilt, decorated with chiseled design of a star-adorned eagle on lightning bolts.
Straight, flat blade with a central ridge, bearing the “S & H” hallmarks of Samuel HOPPE, known as “Simon HELLIS,” at the heel.
Leather scabbard with two brass fittings.
Long guard with line engraving and long pommel with a chiseled oval fastening button and line engraving.
