Charles Drybergh (Brussels, 1932 – Ostend, 1990)
Evolved from lyrical abstraction and Pop Art toward a highly personal figurative style in which everything is reduced to the essentials yet remains close to the abstract. “Exploded, fragmented, or highly schematic figures, couples, and groups evoke an atmosphere of astonishment, alienation, or the macabre.” His works reflect an unconventional and poetic vision of freedom. Recipient of the “Jeune Peinture Belge” Prize in 1961. Works in the museums of Ostend, Liège, and Brussels.
