René SAUTIN (1881-1968) Secret Garden: A notebook of poems illustrated with ink drawings. Dimensions: 22.5 × 18 cm. This unique work comprises 82 pages combining text and illustrations. René Sautin gathered 58 poems by his favorite authors—Victor Hugo, Charles Baudelaire, Jean Richepin, Paul Verlaine, among others—which he accompanied with delicate ink drawings. A cultured and sensitive man, Sautin had the habit of copying his poetic readings into this notebook, enriching them with his personal touch. This Secret Garden is a rare and deeply personal testament to the artist. This sketchbook was presented at the René Sautin retrospective organized by the Friends of Heritage of Les Andelys in October 2018.
