Important Altar Cross Made Of Silver And Gilded Silver – Southern Germany, Probably Aug
An elegant Baroque altar cross in silver, richly engraved and chased with plant and floral motifs, embellished with a figure of Christ in gilded silver. A large, gilded, spherical central knot, worked in repoussé, sits atop a faceted shaft and a wide polygonal base decorated in relief. On the reverse are hallmarks and a fineness mark (Tremolierstrich), consistent with early silverwork from southern Germany and likely from Augsburg.
