Pair Of Holy Oil Lamps For Catechumens, Made Of Solid Silver, By Demarquet, 19th Century
Pair of solid silver holy oil flasks (or double chrismatory) engraved with OS (Oleum Sanctum) and SC (Sanctum Chrisma), with bodies and lids decorated with fine beaded friezes, topped by a small Latin cross, bearing the Minerva hallmark and the Demarquet Frères silversmith’s mark (1868–1890), dating from the 19th century.
These ampoules are in good condition. Hallmarks as shown in photos.
O.S. (Oleum Sanctum or Oleum Catechumenorum): The oil of the catechumens, used for baptism.
S.C. (Sanctum Chrisma): Holy Chrism, used for baptism, confirmation, and ordination.
