Rectangular Planter With Beveled Sides, Crackled Porcelain

  • Brick-red/terra-cotta background with gold and ivory reserves featuring a design of stylized flowers and pomegranates, with a sea-green border. Acid-resist technique, typical of Wong Lee Hong Kong productions.
  • Handles: 2 patinated handles shaped like lion heads / mascarons; same base as the other piece.
  • Mark on the bottom: G & C in red, with the number 183 and characteristic crackle glaze. This is the same importer’s mark as on your other piece.
  • Date: Wong Lee 1895 – Hong Kong. The year 1895 commemorates the end of the Sino-Japanese War, and the company continued production into the 1950s. Your piece dates from the 1920s–1940s, in the Napoleon III revival style that was very fashionable for bourgeois interiors.
