Crackled Porcelain Ball Planter With Bronze Base
Crackled porcelain ball-shaped planter with bronze mount—a very fashionable style from 1890–1930.
Description:
- Shape: spherical porcelain body with ivory/cream crackle glaze all over, typical of Chinese crackle ware
- Mounting: gilded bronze with a patina in the Louis XV / Rocaille style, very ornate: openwork crown at the neck with cartouches and small flowers, two large leaf-adorned handles ending in floral knobs, and a four-legged base with volutes.
This is what is known as a European goldsmith’s mount on export porcelain. - Mark: on the bottom, in red, G & C + a small number 5M.
This is the mark of a French importer/distributor. The porcelain itself is Wong Lee 1895, Hong Kong.
