German multi-tiered inkwell and writing desk by Friedrich Soennecken19th century BOU25ENC001
Friedrich was born in Iserlohn-Dröschede, Sauerland in 1848, the son of a blacksmith. On May 17, 1875, he founded F. Soennecken Verlag, a commercial enterprise located in Remscheid, Westphalia. His main inventions were the “round script” calligraphy style and the associated pen nib. Round script was designed to be a visually appealing and standardized calligraphic style, easy to learn and write. Soennecken published books on the subject in several languages, and his company also designed and manufactured writing-related items

It is decorated with two medallions depicting a man and a woman from the 15th or even 16th century; the man is holding a stemmed glass in his hand. Birds adorn the rim of thewriting set
The set is in fine condition, both in terms of use and preservation, designed to hold two inkwells, quills, envelopes, and letters...
